Jordan Archer, 18, was spotted leaving the Asda car park in Cowpen, Blyth, with his headlights turned off on the evening of February 8.
When police tried to stop him he hit the accelerator on his blue Nissan Micra and took his fellow passengers, which included a pregnant 18-year-old, and officers on a lengthy pursuit.

Hide AdThe reckless motorist sped off at more than twice the speed limit and teared along roads in Blyth right down to North Shields almost causing a number of crashes along his route.
Thankfully officers were able to bring him to a controlled stop on Norham Road where he was arrested.
His dangerous antics behind the wheel required a heavy police response which included the police helicopter in order to locate and stop the vehicle without causing any serious injury to other motorists or those involved.
Archer, of Gladstone Street in Blyth, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on April 22, and pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving, having no insurance, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and possession.

Hide AdPC Andrew Clarke, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols Department, condemned Archer’s actions and said this could easily have ended in serious injury for himself or others.
He said: “It is incredibly lucky that nobody was seriously injured or even killed.
“Archer’s actions behind the wheel were reckless and irresponsible especially with a pregnant passenger.
“Fortunately officers were able to put the brakes on his actions and bring the car to a halt before anyone was seriously injured.

Archer has been remanded into custody and is due to be sentenced on May 12.
