Weather warning issued as strong winds forecast to hit North East

The Met Office has has warned against strong winds, which could top 45mph in parts of the North East, between midnight and 4pm on Sunday.
The weather warning says there is a slight chance buildings may be damaged and power cuts may occur.

Hide AdJourneys may take longer and rail, air and ferry services could be affected leading to cancellations.
There is a also a small chance that injuries could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
Gusts of wind are expected to reach around 38mph along the coast with higher winds forecast inland.
A Met Office spokesman said: “An area of low pressure is expected to develop over the Atlantic and track eastwards across central Scotland during Sunday with strong winds developing across a large swathe of the UK.

Hide Ad“Gusts of 50-60 mph are most likely over and to the east of high ground, particularly the Pennines which may lead to some travel disruption.
“With trees in full leaf, fallen branches and damaged trees may cause some localised travel and power disruption.
“While there is high confidence in the development of the low pressure system, there is the potential for a much deeper system with stronger winds and a risk of severe gales around coasts and through the Central Belt.”
