TEENAGER Emily Hill took the plunge to help fund a charity challenge.
The 18-year-old, from Alnwick, tackled a sponsored bungee jump off Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge to raise money to take part in Global Xchange, a six-month programme for young people run in partnership by the British Council and Voluntary Service Overseas.
Emily is excited about the prospect of living and working for three months in a new UK community and three months in Nepal.
She said: "I want to experience different culture and gain work experience and life skills. Global Xchange will give me the opportunity to do this."
Although Global Xchange will arrange volunteer placements, travel requirements and provide volunteers with a small living allowance, Emily still needs to raise £600 towards the exchange.
She said: "I was unsure of what I wanted to do after college but was certain it had to be something I'd never done before and that would benefit others as well as myself.
"I hope to make a real difference both overseas and here in the UK and wish to use the valuable insights from this experience towards future employment."
Over the past four years more than 700 people have taken part in Global Xchange between the UK and Bangladesh, China, Eygpt, Ghana, Indonesia, India, Kenya, Malawi, Mongolia, Morocco, Nigeria, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, Syria and Yemen.
