ALNWICK maintained their good run of form with a 3-0 win over Northumbria St Georges.
The triumph extended their unbeaten league run to five matches as the seconds capitalised on another good all-round team performance.
Alnwick showed their character in the first 15 minutes of the game as they survived an attacking onslaught from St Georges. Excellent defending from Smith, Roberts and Frew kept the ball from the backboard.
A timely substitution brought Allen into the game and she immediately made an impact and scored the first goal.
Alnwick's lead was constantly under pressure, but Northumbria were off target with their strikes.
At the other end Alnwick won a couple of penalty corners but couldn't quite convert, despite some determined work from Harle, Fairbairn and Tweedie. Minutes later E Pringle finished a pitch-length run with a cross into the D and Tweedie was on the end to put Alnwick 2-0 up.
Northumbria kept applying the pressure and forced some great saves from Ryder who was making her debut in goal.
In the second-half a change over to the right brought H Pringle in to her comfort zone and she made several great runs up the right, pairing up well with Brown and finally crossing in to the D where E Pringle just missed.
Young and Allen defended well in the centre and Young's distribution to both wings was crucial.
Ryder continued to assert her presence in goal and confidently confronted a one on one.
Alnwick continued to soak up the pressure before H Pringle's work on the right was finally rewarded when she put Alnwick 3-0 up.
Smith and Frew won vital territory with some strong free hits and made sure that Northumbria weren't able to get back into the game.
