ALNWICK U15 continued their pre-season campaign with another goal fest of a game.
Local rivals Longhoughton U16 made the short journey across to Alnwick and it was the away side who had the better of the opening part of the game.
Longhoughton
began bright and put pressure on the Alnwick town defence. Not long into the game Alnwick old boy Aaron Beattie rose highest in the penalty box to head his side into the lead. Not long after conceding their first goal, poor marking again from a corner, Longhoughton doubled their lead in similar fashion.
Alnwick were sloppy and Longhoughton continued to dominate the first half. However, just before half time lady luck smiled on Alnwick and Thomas Allen's cross was turned in by a Longhoughton defender. Just seconds later Allen made a similar run down the right hand side and his shot came back off the post.
Longhoughton went into the break with a deserved 2-1 lead.
The goal just before half time had given Alnwick some much needed confidence and this showed after the break as they started to pass the ball well and find some rhythm in their play.
Alnwick thought they had levelled when Lee Dundas' long range effort hit off the bar and fell to Thomas Allen who finished well but the goal was ruled out for offside. Moments later Joe Henderson picked the ball up in midfield and shot from long range, his shot was deflected past the keeper and into the net to level for the home team.
Alnwick had now taken control of the game and their was no stopping them when Thomas Allen finally got his name on the score sheet to give the home side the lead for the first time in the game.
Shortly after Rhys Ainslie scored his third goal in two games after slotting in a one on one past the keeper.
Kieran Hogg showed great technique when he lofted a left footed shot over the keepers head to make it 5-2.
Alnwick made some changes and commanding centre back Lee Dundas was moved upfront and he quickly made an impact by running down the left hand side and smashed a shot into the back of the net.
The goal of the game was scored by captain Jordan Trotter who fired in a half volley into the top corner from 30 yards. The game was rounded up when David Mitchell managed to guide the ball into the back of the opposition goal.
Town's manager Mike Openshaw said: "We started very slowly and were second to every ball. Credit to Longhoughton, they wanted it more than us at the beginning. After half time we showed what we are capable of and I couldn't have asked for more from the lads."
