Lucy Bronze and Lucy Staniforth became the pride of Northumberland when they were picked for the U17 England Women's World Cup squad.
The pair, who go to Alnwick's Duchess's High School, played in all six England matches at New Zealand 2008.

Beaten by Korea DPR in the semi-final, the duo and the rest of the Lionesses succumbed to the might of Germany in the third-place play-off.

Here is how their World Cup story unfolded:

Group stage: Group D
October 30: England 3 Brazil 0
Wellington Stadium, Wellington
LUCY B comes off the bench after 69 minutes. Lucy S is replaced on the hour. Lauren Bruton's 75th minute goal is sandwiched between a Danielle Carter double as England open their World Cup account in style.

November 2: England 1 Nigeria 0
Wellington Stadium, Wellington
LUCY B starts against the Flamingoes. She is taken-off after 71 minutes. Lucy S is a late substitute, coming on in second-half injury-time. Jessica Holbrook's 79th minute winner bags the points for England and takes them to the top of Group D.

November 5: England 0 Korea Republic 3
North Harbour Stadium, Auckland
LUCY B plays whole match while Lucy S comes on after 66 minutes. But rampant Korea score three goals through Ji So Yun, Koh Kyung Yeon and Song Ari. The Asian side leapfrog England to qualify for the quarter-final as Group D winners. England book their place in the last-eight as group runners-up after Brazil and Nigeria draw 2-2.

Quarter-final
November 9: England 2 Japan 2 (aet; England win 5-4 on penalties)
Waikato Stadium, Hamilton
LUCY B plays whole match. Lucy S is substituted after 71 minutes. But the 16-year old scores England's first goal, a stunning strike from the edge of the box. Japan take the lead through an eighth minute Chinatsu Kira shot. Lucy S equalises for England in first-half injury time. Japan lead again through Mana Iwabuchi before a 40-yard effort from Isobel Christiansen plunges the game into extra-time. Neither side can be separated, so the game goes to penalties.
And England do what England teams rarely do – win a penalty shoot-out! Lauren Davey saves Japan's fifth penalty before Gemma Bonner fires home the winning kick.

Semi-final
November 13: England 1 Korea DPR 2
Queen Elizabeth II stadium, Christchurch
BOTH Lucys start. Lucy S is replaced five minutes from time. A 75th minute effort from England's Rebecca Jane can not inspire a second-half fightback after Korea score two first-half goals. Korea DPR go on to win the tournament.

Third-place play-off
November 16: England 0 Germany 3
North Harbour Stadium, Auckland
BOTH Lucys start. Lucy B is substituted in the 89th minute. Goals from Inka Wesely, Turid Knaak and Lynn Mester see the U17 Women's European Champions grab a bronze medal.
