AS the boxer who gained notoriety for biting off part of his opponent's ear, 'Iron' Mike Tyson might not strike you as ideal counselling material.
Not to mention that the Brooklyn-born bad-boy is also a convicted rapist.

But that hasn't stopped the 41-year-old former heavyweight champion of the world from offering his services to beleaguered Newcastle United legend Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne.

Tyson believes that he can help ease the mind of the lad from Dunston, Gateshead, who was recently caught eating raw liver at Newcastle's swanky Malmaison hotel, accompanied by a plastic talking parrot.

Gazza, who is believed to have suffered a mental breakdown, ended up requiring two weeks in hospital to recover.

But Tyson, who plans to visit the UK next month says he wants to lend an ear to the former Toon and England star.

"I know all about Gazza and I feel I can help him," he told PA News. "A lot of top sportsmen have suffered in their private lives, including me, and that is why I want to help.

"I still see him as a superstar and would like to meet him if he feels up for it."

It's not the first time Iron Mike - aka The Baddest Man on the Planet - has used his mentoring skills with footballers.

Boxing fan Wayne Rooney has met the facially-tattooed bludgeoner several times, the first being three years ago when the Man Utd forward was facing flak over his aggressive style of play.

Tyson said: "Back in 2005, Wayne Rooney was on a downer and I met him and lifted his spirits.

"I am sure I can do the same for Paul Gascoigne."
