IT'S not the kind of raffle where you might win a tin of beans or a bottle of wine at the local church fete.
A company called Voyage2Space has now announced the launch of a pay-to-play competition in the UK.

And the prize is a trip into space with Virgin Galactic worth £107,000.

The concept, similar to a raffle, has been around for quite some time, pa
rticularly in busy airports, usually with a prize such as a sports car.

The Voyage2Space.com concept is somewhat similar, each entrant pays £10 to enter the competition with the winner scheduled to be announced in early 2009.

Julia Shaw, from Voyage2Space.com, said: "We would like to give someone the opportunity to experience the earth from orbit.

"To many people it's an ambition which so few will ever manage to achieve.

"We believe the prize is perfectly suited to the pay to play concept."

Prior to the launch of Virgin Galactic in 2005, a private trip to space used to cost in the region of £20million.

Virgin is charging £107,000 which is significantly less for a seat on its Spaceship One, however still far too expensive for the majority of the public.

The eventual winner will be among the first Britons to experience space – at no cost.
